Bricktown School was closed in 1945 and later sold. It was remodeled for use as a home.
The first picture here shows how it looked in 1985. (picture courtesy of Mary Armstrong)
Today there are huge scrubs in the front of the school making it
difficult to see the front.
Other pictures show out bldgs., which were later removed. One picture is the south side outhouse in
sad shape. Notice:(3 holes, though I recall less for the girls outhouse.)
Another picture is the coal shed, also later removed. (pics. courtesy of Martha Stahl)
The school had a furnace which was kept going during the winter months. Usually a
student would get buckets of coal from the coal shed and carry them into
the school so coal could be shoveled into the furnace. Often a student, usually in an
upper grade, came to school early each morning to open the school and also
to make sure the furnace was fired up, coal added and the
school nice and toasty warm before the teacher and the rest
of the students came to school.
