We had lots of music at school. Some even learned musical intruments when a music teacher visited the school. And we had lots of singing which I think all enjoyed. And we had art projects in this one-room school. I especially loved the art, drawing, coloring pictures and cutting construction paper decorations at holiday times. There was always something new to learn. One was using a tool and burning a design on a piece of wood. I still have two that were done when in the 5th and 6th grades.

My name is Mary June
I began Bricktown school in the fall of 1938 at the age of 5. The first day was frightening! I remember my dad took me to school and together we walked down that long, middle isle to meet the teacher, Miss Votaw. Her kind words and really nice smile welcomed me to this one-room school. Soon I met new friends and loved going to school.
